Here are 5 daily health habits you can start today!
Stay Hydrated
You’ve heard it before, but drinking water is super important. It helps you feel great, keeps you from getting sick, and keeps your body working right. It always helps prevent acne! If drinking water is hard for you, get a cool water bottle you like or add stickers to personalize. Add some lemon or orange slices to make it tastier and get a vitamin boost! Aim for at least 8 cups of water per day, and more for when the weather is hot or you’re exercising.
Get Your Best Sleep
Sleep is crucial for your body and mind. Everyone needs different things for good sleep, so pay attention to how you sleep and what might help you sleep better. Is your pillow uncomfortable? Try a new one! Can’t turn off your thoughts? Try journaling before bed. Make the changes you need because sleep is too important to skip on! Some tips include avoiding screens 30 minutes before bed and setting your room to a cool temperature. Another tip is to keep your phone far from your bed so you don’t get tempted to scroll when you should be sleeping. Teens often need more than 8 hours of sleep as your body goes through many physical and mental changes and growth.
Enjoy Fun Activities
You might feel guilty about doing things that aren’t “productive,” but fun activities are important too. You need to rest well to work well. Spend 30 minutes to an hour every day doing something you enjoy, like reading, playing a game, trying a new recipe, or talking with friends. Enjoying simple things in the present can make you happier and refreshed for your next school and work tasks.
Get Outside and Enjoy the Sunshine
A walk can really boost your mood and give you some exercise! Being outside has tons of benefits, like a stronger immune system, better sleep, and lower blood pressure. Plus, physical exercise combined with positive social interactions can improve negative moods and self-esteem. For example, enjoy the sunshine while on a walk or run with friends. Don’t forget sunscreen!
Unplug for a While
Social media, the news, and constant messages can be stressful and mentally draining. Take back your peace by unplugging for a bit (or a lot) each day. Put your phone away or silence notifications, especially while in school or spending time with family. Always be vigilant for possible predators online, too.
If doing all these habits every day feels like too much, start with one or two! The key is to be consistent, not perfect.
